Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good and his loyal love endures. (1 Chronicles 16:34, NET) God has been reminding me of our story. Not my story. Not his story. But OUR story. And recently he pointed out to me that it started much earlier than I’d realized. Together, we took a tour of my memories. Which we’ve done before. I’ve shown God where he was supposed to show up, and I’ve told him which parts he ought to have fixed, and how he could have changed everything. But this time, I let God be the tour guide. He led me to my childhood home. I was here. I remember the games you used to design, your creativity brought me such joy. He pointed to my pillow. I saw the tooth you put under your pillow hoping for a dollar! He showed me my daybed. I was with you when you were sick and scared. And I heard you when you whispered to the darkness that you needed a hug. Long before I knew his name, God had already been a constant presence in my life. I’ve loved you your whole life. And here I was thinking that I’d met him when I was 16! God’s love is constant. There was never a time that God didn’t love you. He was with you in the mundane moments, and in the hard ones. He was always there, loving you, and looking forward to the moment when you’d realize he was in front of you. I pray that this week, you will get to remember your own love story with God. And I pray he shows you all the ways he was wooing you before you even knew his name. Because he has loved you your whole life too. Yours in spirit, Sarah Bentley
Now may the Lord direct your hearts toward the love of God and the endurance of Christ. (2 Thessalonians 3:5, NET)
Ask God to bring to mind a memory. Let him walk you through it through his eyes. What does he want to say to you about that time of your life?
What parts of your story with God do you tend to forget about? What about those moments does he want you to know?
