Seeing Kindness and Love

But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, (Titus 3:4 NAS95). God exists as a radically joyous being who forever and continuously extends goodness to His creation. Christmas accents that beyond measure. The Advent of Jesus into the created order expresses, like no other event, the heart of God for you and me, as well as the world.

Jesus’ advent into my life and heart, reflects that kindness and love. First, He literally came to me. I did not seek Him out. I see and experience His coming to me as incredibly kind. I would have missed Him otherwise. Second, He has nurtured my life through thick and thin. Thistles and thorns have tried to choke out the life He’s given me, but He’s always managed to remove them and transform me through them. He rescued my reputation in the midst of false accusations and granted deep freedom. He returned a relationship after I experienced rejection and through the process matured me so I could better engage relationally. He took my fears regarding support development and transformed it into fun, growing my faith. At every turn, pain became blessing. I now realize that my perception of circumstances barricaded me from His kindness and love rather than opening the gateway to them, enhancing my relationship with God and the experience of life.

But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love…appeared, rings true for me. Christmas, the advent of Jesus to my life, has granted me a richness I could have never imagined on my own. Jesus has only enhanced my ability to enjoy the fullness of the life He has given me. His coming transformed my life through the experience of His kindness and love, so much so, I now realize He is the gift and kindness and love are His nature. We may celebrate Christmas once a year, but Jesus makes Christmas a daily affair in my adventure with Him through life. Now as a result of His kindness and love, I regularly partake of His joy, even in the craziest of circumstance. Merry Christmas truly brings joy to world through the best gift ever: Jesus! Warmly in Christ, Doug Mitts

For Reflection:

“Lift up your heads, O gates, and lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in! Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.” (Psalms 24:9–10 NAS95)

  1. In what ways during this past year has God shown you His kindness and love?

  2. What awakens your attention to converse with Jesus as you walk the journey He has given you?
