Kingdom Living

November 4, 2019

“But I will not remove My loyal love from him, nor be unfaithful to My promise. I will not break My covenant or go back on what I promised.” (Psalm 89:33-34, NET)

What do you do when it looks like the kingdom isn’t coming?

I was reading through the last parts of Matthew—the part where Jesus is mocked, and paraded around and then killed.

I asked Jesus, “Why don’t I see your followers in this story?”

He said to me, “They could not understand my promise. I was gone. It looked like my kingdom wasn’t coming after all.”

Then He brought to my mind some times that I had given up hope. When it looked like anxiety was going to suffocate the life from me. When it looked like our calling had been stripped away. Now that it looks like we will never be fully funded.

In God’s Kingdom there is constant cause for celebration. So when we face things in this life that drain our joy, it is no wonder we can’t see His kingdom. His kingdom is wholeness. His kingdom is rightness. His kingdom is praise.

And praise is empty without promise, my love.

The times in my life that it looks like the kingdom will never be within reach, are the times I’ve lost sight of God’s promises.

So what does Kingdom living look like? It looks like waiting three days. It looks like praising Him BECAUSE of the promises we have from Him. It looks like celebrating now because we know what comes next!

“My kingdom came to stay,” Jesus told me. “It is always here for you to dwell in.”

In the midst of my brokenness, I’m choosing to live in His kingdom today. Letting Him put the pieces back together. Watching my faith and hope be restored. And all I need do is stand still and praise.

Warmly in Christ,

Sarah Bentley

For Reflection:

“So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe.” (Hebrews 12:28, NET)

  1. Where does it look like the Kingdom isn’t coming in your life? What promise has God given you that tells you otherwise?

  2. What time of your day is dedicated to praising God? If you don’t have one, is this a rhythm you need to start?
